Will Clarke wins Mallorca Triathlon

Will Clarke has won the 2014 Mallorca Triathlon. Will completed the Olympic Distance race in Colonia Sant Jordi in 1:40:50, beating out Sean Donnelly and Graham Leitch for the win.

Will Clarke was pleased with a successful test on the short course two weeks before his next half distance race, the Ironman 70.3 Barcelona. “It feels good to take my first win of the season. It shows me I can still go fast over the short distance. More importantly, I now have that fast work-out in my legs, which will serve me well in my next races for sure. Today was a good day overall. I am not the fastest swimmer in the world, but I swam as hard as I could. I came out of the water together with Donnelly with a ten-second lead on the rest. On the bike, we worked really hard the first 10-20 kilometers to make sure no one else could catch us. Going into T2, we had quite a big gap. I felt good in the 10k and was able to run hard to take the win.”

The Uplace-BMC Pro Triathlon Team has been training in Colonia Sant Jordi for a week now. A number of Uplace-BMC athletes and staff competed in the Mallorca Triathlon relay. Dirk Bockel’s team, which also consisted of Rob Woestenborghs on the bike and team manager Bob De Wolf in the run, even took the relay win.

Will Clarke’s Mallorca title puts the Uplace-BMC season total at 6 victories and 8 podium finishes.
