Liz was leading the whole race. After the swim Liz led by 1'20" on Lisa Marangon and 2'05" on Michelle Gailey. It was the closest the field got to Liz Blatchford all day. During the bike leg, Liz increased her lead to 4 minutes. Liz did not slow down as she put down the fastest run split of the day to cruise to her first Challenge victory.

Enjoyed my whole race

After the race, Liz was clearly satisfied: "I had a great day out in Forster today. I wasn't sure what I would have in the legs 4 weeks post Kona but they felt good and strong. I led the swim by just over a minute and continued to build my lead on the bike. There was a strong headwind for the last 25km of the bike so that hurt a bit. I came off the bike with around 4 minutes to Lisa Marangon in second.
The run had ups and downs but I drew on the adrenaline of leading and managed to continue to grow my lead. I eventually took the win fairly comfortably- as comfortable as a half ironman can be!! They course was stunning and I really enjoyed my whole race."
Her next race is Ironman Busselton in 4 weeks.
